    Default Re: Fireplace Problems

I just read that you fire place is vented out the side if that is true it should never be used for wood there are no ul listed direct vent wood fireplaces on the market and it would be very unsafe. my guess with out seeing it is that that box is for the air intake and the flue exits through the top of the chase but I have also seen builder do some crazy stuff so who knows. also this type of fire place will never make much of any usuable heat at all just about all fireplaces send more heat and heated air from inside the house up the flue than they produce if you are near the fire place you will feel radiant heat from it but in the mean time it will be pulling heated air from else where in the house and sending it up the flue. this is true regardless of the fuel used.
