Default Replacing 1950s steel frame doors and jambs

Anyone ever replaced the doors and frames that came in 1950s construction housing with modern pre-hung doors? Someone told me these frames were bolted to the concrete beneath the floor and the only way to get them out is to rip up the floor. Is that true? Anyone ever done this or worked around it and updated the doors?

whoever told you that didn't know what they were talking about. of course the doors can be replaced with new ones. and no concrete flooring will have to be ripped up at all. get a contractor to look at it and see what's involved.

Without seeing your door, I can tell you that you can always cut the door jambs across with a Japanese Hand Saw.
