Default Can I install a gas cooktop over a steam radiator?

The radiator is under a countertop, with about 12 inches of clearance between the top of the radiator and the underside of the countertop. In our kitchen remodel, that counter top is the ideal spot for a gas cooktop. Can we safely install it there? Do we need to put any kind of insulating material between the cooktop and the radiator?

I don't see why not. The cook top has to be in a shallow cabinet, to hide the gas supply line. If you want to attach some kind of insulation, it can't hurt, if it stays up and doesn't fall down.
