Default Adding a ridge vent to an existing comp roof

I have an architectural comp roof (I believe some call it a lifetime roof others a 50 year roof). Is it possible to add a ridge vent? I need to correctly vent a vaulted ceiling. My previous post about correct venting was answered but it did not say whether a ridge vent could be added.

Remove the current ridge cap shingles

Use a circular saw to cut through the shingles and plywood, about 2 inches on either side of the ridge, stopping short of the edges and any eaves.

    Install your new ridge cap

    Install your new shingles

Dab some caulk on those last 4 roofing nails.

Don't forget that a ridge vent is only half the system- you need proper eave ventilation too. On many older homes this may be marginal or non-existant so it's worth checking while you're at it.

Correct procedure, except for dimensional/architectual shingles, you need to cut more than 2".

True, plus different ridge vent manufacturers will have different opening widths at the ridge
