Default How to remove tar paper from reclaimed hardwood flooring

I recently removed oak flooring from a home. It is covered with the tar paper adhesive from 1930's linoleum. How can I remove the tar paper from the 2 1/4" slats before I use it in my home? I thought of using a planer, however it might gum up the blades too fast. I have about 300 square feet to clean up before I can re-use it.

That black tar like stuff is called "cut back", and there is a solvent made specifically for removing it. Check with any good flooring retailer that caters to contractors and tell them what you have, they'll show you what you need. It would also be helpful if you took a sample of the stuff with you.
I suffer from CDO ... Its like OCD, but in alphabetical order, LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!
