Default high efficiency self igniting water tank

I've noticed that when there is a whole house power outage, my hot water tank won't re light on its own. Its 2004 model; LOCHINVAR.

Without seeing your unit, my guess is that it probably has an electronic ignition system, not a pilot type ignition.

Have you checked the owners manual for a trouble shooting guide?
