    Default issue with fireplace

I am not to sure if this is the forum, if its not can someone tell me which one to go to.

the floor to my fireplace has cracked and chipped. Do i need to replace the entire thing? or can I just use some refractory mortar and fill in the cracks and chipped area?

A photo will help. You can load it on photobucket.com and give us the link.

You need to know the nature of the crack, the width, the length, the cause.

What type of a fireplace is it?

You may want to consult a fireplace mason.

as long as the fire box is structurally sound you should be able to just patch the mortar. but you should probably have a chimney sweep look at it to be sure chances are that you are fine but you don't really want to take the risk
