    Default Selecting material for deck

I have narrowed down the choices for our new deck to Ipe or cedar. SWMBO does not like PT or any of the composite options. I was wondering if anyone had a strong feeling either way. The planks will be at 45 degrees so for the cedar (2x6) to work the joist will have to be on 12" centers. The Ipe (5/4 x 6) can be happy with 16" centers. The price difference is significant....about 50% more for the Ipe. We plan to stay in this house for the foreseeable future so maybe the better material is worth it? Any thoughts?

I have never worked Ipe but I do not mind the extra work associated with the installation.

Both will make excellent decks, so it's up to you, your taste, preference and budget.
    IPE is a harder wood.

If you ask me to choose, given the number of years you want to stay in the house and disregarding the cost, I'd choose IPE.
