    Default chalkey plaster walls

I need help with my plaster wall. In my son's room, one exterior wall has spots where there is a white chalky film. What is this and how do I get rid of it? Should the wall be removed to check what is going on behind it?
    thank you.

What you are see is effiorescence.
Cause is moisture migrating throught the plater when the moisture dries the white powder is left on the surface.
To fix the problem stop the moisture could be a leak from roof , window or siding.
    Question is your exterior Brick?

I would be surprised if the exterior of that wall was not some type of porous face brick which is passing moisture into the wall. If so, sealing of the exterior brick could help reduce the water entering the brick and into the wall cavity.
