    Question old vines from clematis

I was wondering if I should remove the old vines from last years clematis? I left it so the new would have more places to attach itself to but now I'm not sure if I should leave it. It might not look good with the old dead in it.
    Thanks for any input,

It will look best and be easier to maintain if you remove the old canes before it grows back from the base.
I suffer from CDO ... Its like OCD, but in alphabetical order, LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!

The old vines aren't nessesarily dead. New growth may come from them. I usually cut mine back every couple or three years when it gets too tangled. Early spring before new qrowth is the time to do it.
