Default Retractable Aluminum Window Awning Repair c. 1952

    Hello-

We have a 1950's home complete with retractable aluminum window awnings on the west-facing side. The cords that are in them are rotting and breaking. Does anyone know how to replace these cords? We cannot figure out how the cords are attached. The brand name appears to be "Flexalum".

The cords are used to roll/unroll the (spring-loaded?) awnings up/down, and then are tied off to a hook to keep them open.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,
    arice

It will be nearly impossible to find parts for such an old awning. The manufacturer is probably not around anymore. Even if you found parts, you'd still have a 60 year old awning.

I would replace it with something new and modern.

Oh, the awnings are fine! It's just the cord part. We've bought cord but don't know how to replace it.
    Thank you! arice
