    Default Garage ceiling Insulation

I have a 1964 all brick ranch style house with a attached single car garage that has the walls insulated but not the ceiling, it has a flat black rubber roof that creates a very hot garage in the summer. I'd like to insulate the 6" rafters in the ceiling, but wondering if the heat could impose a fire hazard between the insulation and the plywood sheathing under the black rubber roof that would have NO air space with the sun beating on it all day, or would it be safer to just leave it un-insulated?

if you're more concerned about heat in the summer as opposed to cold in the winter you would be better off properly ventilating the space to remove the excess heat. it would also help with the life expectancy of the rubber roof.
