    Default hardwood floor repair?

my house was built in 1959 in the Dallas Fort Worth area (no basements) and I am told that at that time hardwood floors were built on a raised level from the slab. from what I can figure the slab for the living and bedrooms were lower that the kitchen and bath slabs, kitchen and baths are tile flooring, a sub floor was made so the hardwood could be laid. my dilemma is that there was flooding at some point in time and to prevent the floors from buckling, slots were cut into the floor and sub floor to allow the water to drain. I discovered the slots after removing wall to wall from a pet issue (not mine).
    so what do I do?
