    Question confused about sealing tile

We are tiling bathroom tub/shower with ceramic tile and travertine accent tiles. Do we seal the travertine before grouting and then everything after grouting? Or just seal everything after grouting?

not all tile requires sealing, travertine does. a trick of the trade is to seal everything, whether it needs it or not, prior to grouting because it make the clean up after grouting considerably easier. then you can always seal it again when you're done. it only takes 5 minutes but it's labor smartly spent.

Let me just add that tile sealants don't last very long.

Your best protection is the moisture barrier you put under the cement board, before the tiles went on. You did install one, didn't you?

If the ceramic tile is glazed then its doesn't need to be sealed. Sealing tiles does not make tiles waterproof so you know.

You will most definitely want to seal your travertine. The natural stone is porous.... This means mold, mildew, stains, etc. Agree with MLB Construction. You may spend more time on it now but less shortcuts here mean less of a headache later.
