Default Using existing roof for shed dormer???

    Hi Guys,

I will be adding a full shed dormer to my 50's cape. I've seen on YouTube where contractors have literally jacked up existing roofs/rafters and reused it for the shed dormer roof. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience/recommendations for this process? I am intrigued about this because my current roof is only a couple years old and I would hate to throw out the roof and rafters especially if there is a reputable way to reuse it.

    Thanks,

    Pat

I have seen it done. The rafters have to be reinforced at the ridge once they're raised.
