What is best type of flooring for a summer home on cape cod that is not heated in the winter? Anything but carpet. is wood flooring good, how does laminate hold up?

wood or tile flooring is best. solid sheet laminate is fine, i would stay away from the peel-and-stick vinyl tiles.

Presently there is wall to wall carpet over plywood substrate but I want to get rid of that and put down hard wood but not sure how it would hold up to potential freezing in winter if we close down the house in winter w/o heat.
