Default Plumbing problems- hot water faucet in shower

We do not use our Guest room shower on a regular basis. After non-use for a few days there is black, greasy sediment ejected from faucet after a few minutes of water running. We have drained the water tank thinking that there is sediment there. But have not found this to be the case. Any recommendation??

Are you on a municipal water supply with chlorinated water? This sounds like it could be the washers/O-rings in the valve giving out; the chlorine in water eventually causes the rubber to dissolve.
