    Default Kitchen vent

What, if anything, can I do to compensate for a newly-installed vent that is about 3" too high over the recommended height above my stove. It can't be moved at this point.

better too high than too low. there is a manufacturer recomended height but it's not set in stone. i very often have customers asking me to install stove vents higher than the standard. makes for easier access, bigger pots, a roomier feeling. i wouldn't consider it an issue.

What MLB said, plus: find out what the manufacturer says about the height from the installation instructions or by calling customer service.

But if you say that the vent/hood can't be moved at this point, why are you worried?

In my fair city there is code for how low but none for how high. Some like the added height, unless you're too short to press the buttons. But if that's the case, then you have a step stool somewhere in the kitchen, like we do.
