Default Leak under cold water handle when hot water is on

We have a Kohler wide spread faucet that is leaking under the escutcheon on the cold water side when the hot water is on but the cold water is off. The water does not appear to be going into the cabinet just bubbling up under the trim and running into the sink. When the water is turned off the leak stops. Each handle has its own valve body. Threaded flexible hoses connect each handle to the faucet at a T. Where do I start trying to debug this? Is the T clogged? Is it a bad valve in the cold faucet? The hot side is almost always the one that is used and the cold side in not frequently turned on. The faucet is about 14 years old. We do have hard water.

Sounds like you need a new cartridge for the cold side. Replace both as they are best replaced in pairs.

You left out one important piece of information: Do you have the same leak when the cold water is on?

From what you described, you may have a worn out valve stem on the cold side. Call Kohler and explain your situation, they might send you a replacement part under their warranty, and if they don't, install a Delta or a Moen instead, two reliable companies which still offer life time warranty on all their products.

You need a new O rings on the stem. Turn the water off to the sink remove the handles and the stems. Take the stems to a plumbing supply and the will get you the right sized O rings. As others have said repair both hot and cold at the same time.

The cold water leaks only when the hot is on. That's what seems odd. I cannot figure what allows water to get to the cold side when the hot is turned on other than the T. All the hot should go to the tap not up the flrxible connector to the cold.

The T has nothing to do with your problem. You need a new O ring on the stem.

When the hot water is turned on, there is back pressure at the cold side where you're getting the leak. Trust us, replace the O rings and gaskets, you'll be fine.

OK its everything from O rings to a cartridge to a valve stem. Guess I'll start with the cheapest - O rings it is!

each of the o rings will be less than 50 cents. Replace everything.
