    Unhappy refinishing old doors

We rescued two old doors from a house about to be torn down. They match our existing doors. Want to replace two cheap hollow core doors someone installed. One door is great, the other has what looks like black stains all over it. When I stripped it, it had very sticky residue. I've tried wood bleach and paint thinner but no luck. Any ideas?

It sounds like you may have run into hide based paint. You might try this method used to remove hide glue. http://www.ehow.com/how_6509398_remove-hide-glue.html

I tried the hide glue recommendation but still no luck. I'm beginning to think the door has mold in the wood. But the bleach/hot water solution did nothing. One side will be to the outside on an 2nd story balcony so I'm not too worried about that side of the door but would like the interior side to look nice without painting it. I much prefer the natural wood look. Any other ideas?
