    Default Pergo Floor Getting Dull

    Hi,

I've got a Pergo kitchen floor that is getting dull after prox 7 years. It's not scratched, just not as 'shiny'. The mfgr makes a big deal about just using simple vinegar and NEVER use 'waxes'.

Are there any ways to get the brightness back without damaging it?

    TIA,

    ---JC

i don't know how good of an idea it truely is but i had a customer that had flooring guys come in, give it a very light buffing/sanding and put a new coat of poly on it. they were very pleased witht the results but i haven't spoke to them since they had it done about 3-4 years ago so i don't know what the long term results were.

Thanks, but that's -scary- given what the mfgr says.

The mfgr doesn't have -any- info on this because, as far as they're concerned, it should -never- need 'shining'. They say over and over that -cleaning- it should restore it's 'original beauty'. Unfortunately, I have not found that to be the case.

    Anyone else?

mlb was that teh dustless sanding ?

i know several people that have had the dustless sanding done and were less than pleased with the result.. in most of these situations though the floors were very old and needed a complete refinish.. the dustless guys said they could get the floors looking like new... all it did was polish the very orange (shellac finishe) dinged and gouged floors
fire up the saw and make some dust

These floors weren't meant to be refinished.

IMHO they are betting you'll lose the receipt or move before the finish got dull.

it was not the dustless sanding.....it was the buffer that the flooring guys use with a rougher buffing pad that just breaks off the finish so that the new poly will have something to stick to

The mfgr had a point. You can use 1 cup of vinegar to 1 gallon water or 1/3 cup of amonia to 1 gallon water.

    Suntower,

Home Depot sells "Rejuvenenate" All Floor Restorer which claims it can be used on lainates. It is described as a "polymer".
    Here is the website: WWW.Rejuvenateinfo.com/restorer.php
