    Default Stone Fireplace remodel

I have a fireplace with a stone face. I would like to put tile over the stones. Of course they are not flat. Do I need to remove the stone? If so, what is the best way?
    The mantel is painted concrete.
Or can I put something over the stone and tile over that?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Hmm I am not really sure how to do that, but I will try and get some information for you. Thanks for posting the pics, too.
