My brother & I have removed a very extensive 20 year old deck from my back yard. Decking is full dimentional 2x4 Spruce, with 2x10 joists spaced ay 16" OC and 2x8 endcaps and railing. Most of the boards of 12-16`long. Was originally designed with 2 20' ramps as it wrapped around a back sunroom and was built for wheelchair access (note: awesome option when you have kids too). There are litterally thousands of nails that have been painstakingly removed. My brother has begun the process of sanding down the decking for me (he has the patience of a saint) and the boards are absolutly gorgeous. Most boards have crackes in them and of course there are the nail holes, but the yellow wood with grey undertones is stunning.
The plan is to reuse what we can and rebuild a much smaller deck but I'm not sure how to refinish the boards. Other than making sure to seal both sides.
Suggestions, comments, etc.
