    Default Finishing Interior Foundation Wall

The stairway to our basement runs along the foundation wall. We would like to finish this wall but we cannot do it using 2 x 4's and drywall as this would take up too much space and would stick out from the drywall that is on top of the foundation. Is it possible to finish this interior foundation wall using stucco or concrete to make some type of surface that could then be painted?

install strapping on the flat. use a concrete nail gun to attach it to the wall. then put 3/8" drywall on the strapping with 3/4" screws and it will only take up 1-1/8" of space instead of 4-1/8"

Why not use a synthetic stucco.
Use the base coat of systhetic stucco to smooth the existing foundation than apply the textured finish of your choice in any color you select no painting required.total thickness should not exceed 1/4 inch and could be as little as 3/16 inch.

The stucco layer is easy to do. You can use regular stucco if it goes on a masonry wall.
