We have a 1905 Victorian home with probably the original shingles. They are in bad shape in some area and have been painted over and over. We also believe that the original lead paint is still underneath the layers.
We have asked for estimate to have the house stripped, shingles repaired and reattach and painted. The estimates have been really high. One contractor suggested not to bother with this siding but to remove them and replace it completely with pre stained shingles while at the same time residding the house with new insulation.
We are wondering what is the best way to go. What would make more sense financially, last longer and add value to our house?
