Default Okay to use flex water line instead copper pipe to dishwasher?

We are replacing our dishwasher and the copper pipe to the dishwasher is too short. We don't want to hire a plumber to come and solder a five inch copper tube. We want to know if it is okay to use a braided flexible water line - like the ones under the faucet (from Home Depot)? Connect two or three of those if we need to (need about 36 inches). Thanks.

They make flex lines to DWs and sell them at the stores. They come in 5 ft length. About $10.

Get the kit from HD for DWs, it comes with the couplings to get the hose connected to the DW.

Last Saturday's rerun of Ask This Old House showed a flex line being used to install a dishwasher. If you look up this episode to watch it, I would make the following recommendation, hook the flex line and drain line up to the dishwasher first, then snake the lines in place as you push the dishwasher in place, then make the underhood connections. Its much easier than the the way they did it on the show where they made the connections to the dishwasher after they had it in place.

Good point Keith - that's the way experienced appliance setters do it.

Its a lot easier if you have someone pulling gently on the hoses and electrical cord whil the DW is being pushed into place.
