    have a bathtub with tile surround. would like to replace with a handicapped shower. how to do this?

    options and directions are extensive. would recommend a good contractor. do some homework and get at least 3 estimates then get back to us and let us know what info you have.

    This job is indeed very involved. Better to strip the walls to the framing and start from scratch. After the demolition, get your plans together and go to plan check.

    Handicapped showers fall under the fire department codes in most jurisdictions. You will need to hire a contractor who's familiar with local FD codes, because the fire inspector will have to sign off at the end. I've done showers like these in the past, and I was lucky to have had a very friendly fire chief, who wanted to work with me and taught me a lot.
