Default making a new patio slab

I want to do a 10x12 patio, but not sure if I want to use cement, brick or slabs and I want a walkway also. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada so we get a lot of snow in the winter, so it has to stand up for the winters. What would be the cheaper way and what is the step by step in doing it?

Consider obtaining a few bids for both installations. Depending on what type of soils you have and the slope of your lot and the potential of frost heaving ... contractors can give you their recommendations.
Consider going to the library for books on concrete and patios as these have the step by step for installing either- Or if there is a big box supply store like lowes or home depoe they too have great instructional guide books..
