Default Kitchen Tile Painted Over How to Fix

I recently purchased a home that needs some work. It has the original kitchen from 1959. Somewhere along the way, someone painted over the tile backsplash and countertops to match the walls. Does anyone have suggestions for a fix until I can afford to get the entire kitchen redone? Is there a way to strip off the paint (it's on the grout around the sink too). Should I invest in new countertops. It's unsightly, and I'm tired of looking at it.

If you have the basic ceramic tiles, you can do this:

    1. Wet the tiles (but don't flood the kitchen).
    2. Using a single edge, scra pe the tiles gently (blade should form 30-45 degrees with the tiles).
    3. Difficult? wet it again and let it soak.
    4. Don't rush, or you will damage the tiles.
    5. Be patient and ready for a lot of elbow grease work.

Too hard? wait till you have enough funds to re-do the kitchen.

try adding a sheet of plastic over the wetted tiles to slow down the evaporation while waiting for the water to work its magic.
