How-to Re-Paint Exterior Brick
My 1920 Craftsman was built by the towns first Doctor out here in Oklahoma. He liked brick and his wife liked yellow. A later owner re-painted it gray in the 1950's. I am assuming that gray paint was oil-based since it is still in place with nary (Western term) a defect anyplace - no stains, no mold or mildew, no peeling; it is almost like "gray battle-ship enamel" so what to put over it might be of concern?
We bought it in 1992 and the gray paint has held up well indeed but before I retire we would like to have it professional re-painted the original yellow before new awnings are installed.
What are the key questions to ask a professional house painter about re-painting brick? Preparation, primer, type of paint, etc
Thanks for any help...
