Default Pavers on top of Concrete Patio

Can I put a sand bed over my concrete patio and then lay pavers on top of the sand bed? The concrete patio is slightly below the surrounding grade. I am concerned that the sand might wash away under the pavers. Should I remove the concrete patio first?

Yes you can. Install some sort of edging around the patio to: 1. prevent the pavers from wandering, 2. prevent the sand from eroding.

Set the outside band of pavers in mud,(mortor or thinset) to eliminate any movement. You will always be loosing some sand....nature of the beast.... especially if the slab has any pitch to it.......
