It might be a good idea to dig and pour a couple peers where the slab will end. Sauna tube with rebar bent 90 degs heading towards the step.....It will help some to reduce the new slab from sagging over time......

    Dan,

Would you consider changing your personal account panel so you could receive personal messages (PM) or email messages; doing so should get you considerably more member feedback on your project.

Click onto "user cp", then onto "edit options"---> "messaging & notification"---> "enable private messaging"--->/ "receive email from other members.

Whelp, it's all but ready for a new landing slab. I'll post some final pictures in a few days when I get the chance to build a form, really finish tamping, add crushed more gravel, and finally pour the actual concrete. There will be some regrading tasks in the area as well, to prevent all today's work from washing out in the future.

Thanks all for your helpful advice and interest.

    Regards,
    Dan

You can make the edges of the slab deeper, that will prevent the base under the concrete from eroding away.
