    Default Barn Beam Mantel

My husband and I are wanting to install a barn beam mantel onto our brick fireplace. The mantel is 6"H x 8"D x 60"L and weighs approximately 80 lbs. I don't want to use any brackets. I have read a few ****** discussions on how best to hang it, but there are a few conflicting solutions. My plan so far is to drill 5-4" holes into the wall and into the beam and secure rebar to the wall and then slide the beam on. My main questions are will this work and what type of adhesive/glue should I put into the holes and on the back of the beam to make sure it can't slide off. Thanks!

prior to your hanging the mantel check with your building dept to make sure that you have the proper clearance for a wooden mantel from the top of the firebox.
