Default Old electric water heater making noises

I have a water heater we installed 20+ years ago. Whenever water is used, it is noisy, making a whirling noise. We have not been diligent in draining/maintaining it. Hubby says its just the water being pulled into the unit, but it never made this sound before. Seems to be working properly. Plenty of hot water.

You can try flushing it but after 20 years it's well past it's lifespan. When you flush a heater you don't drain it. Just connect a hose to the drain on the heater and without turning the water off open the drain until the water runs clear.

Could be sediments in the tank. Don't worry about it, you ahead of the game since you got your WH to work for 20 years, so when it goes, replace it.
