    Question Chimney hose?

Last year I had the roof repaired and I went up to look at it the other day and noticed that they removed the chimney cap that was on there and put on a smaller one that has a silver hose going down inside the chimney. Why would they possibly do this? As far as I know the only thing the chimney does is hook up to the water heater and vent CO2. What's the purpose of the silver hose?

It's called a chimney liner. More efficient appliances often need them to reduce the size to get proper draft and they are necessary to prevent deterioration of masonary chimneys.

THANK YOU Jack, I was just reading about them

Funny how they are so important and yet no one at Home Depot knew anything about them
