Uneven Temperature Regulation Between Floors
We have a 2 story brick rambler built in 1960. It has central air/oil heat, both upgraded 4 years ago. My problem is the basement is about 10 degrees cooler than the upstairs. I've tried restricting the air intake in the basement so the upstairs draws more air, without much change. The upstairs has individual air intakes in each room at floor level. I've considered extending the air intakes to ceiling level to draw the hot air in during summer but the walls have fire stops about 1/2 way up. I also leave the air handler, which is in the basement, running all the time. Is there any means of circulating the cool air from the basement to the upstairs or vice versa? I feel it would drastically reduce our a/c consumption.
