Default Bathroom ceramic tile cracking from back side

Basement bathroom shower only 18 months old. Ceramic tile is cracking the entire length of the wall from the back side along the seam of the cement board. We removed one tile and found cement board but no seam tape. Is the tile cracking because of shifting, faulty wall construction or because the cement board seam was not taped? Or, is it something else? Any ideas?

If if the seams weren't taped doesn't necessarily mean it would cause cracking. More than likely there is movement of the wall structure or the backer board doesn't have enough or improperly installed fasteners.
This is a common symptom seen on floors that have been improperly done..
