I've used high gloss enamel for cabinets in rental homes for a long time and the results were acceptable. The cabinets have to be prepared first with doors, drawers, hinges and knobs removed.
You can brush or spray the paint on. I prefer spray, for a smoother finish.

This is not a one day job.

I have painted 3 different kitchens - also used high gloss enamel. My own kitchen has been painted for 30 years; can't bear to get new cabinets, because I like my sturdy painted ones so well.
I'd be sure to take them all apart; that means all doors off, hardware removed, drawers out and sand it down. Doing it right makes it last and look beautiful.

I've used latex paint with Floetrol added and it seems to be holding up very well. I've also heard good things about Majik's Diamond Hard paint, although I've never used it.
