Products for cleaning old hardwood floor
So we bought a house built in 1947. We ripped out all the carpet and want to go with the wood underneath. It's douglas fir and it's really dirty and gunky, but the finish isn't too bad. We want to keep the character of the floor so we don't really want to sand and refinish. We had a floor guy over and he strongly recommended a product called IFT (Intensive Floor Treatment) to get the floor clean. He said we could find it in a janitorial supply shop, but so far the only places that have it are ******. The janitorial supply shop we went to didn't have any but did strongly recommend using super diluted oven and stove cleaner, which he happened to sell. Sounded scary to me but what do I know. Anyway has anyone ever used IFT (or diluted oven cleaner :O )and how did it work? Can you recommend any product that will remove the gunk and restore the wood to it's original glory? Janitorial Supply Guy said we had to use a product that's on the alkaline side because the neutral products wouldn't be strong enough for Gunk removal.
