Question updating baseboard heating with split system

We are currently in the process of buying an older home... the heat system is all electric baseboard heat... the only air conditioning in the home is an OLD condenser air where it looks like a window air, but the condenser is actually on the ground and looks like central air.

This house is 4200 sq ft. Has absolutely NO duct work. The baseboards that are currently in the home are the type that have a wall control that looks like a big paper clip...Each room has its own controls... we are wanting to update this. We are wondering, though, what is the best route to go. The electric bill is VERY VERY cheap for this house and so we kind of want to stay with that.. but we also want to have cooling.. Does anyone know anything about the split systems that are out there and if so, which is the best way to go with that. We have contacted area plumbing and heating places and they just give us the run around saying that we need to contact an electrician instead of them... HELP!!! What system is the best for the money and who would you contact to get help with this.. and is there rebates for energy star for this....

    Thanks!

Your probably talking about a Ductless Split which the Evap. would be mounted on the interior wall. You can get these with Multi Evaps that would be installed in diff. rooms and use the one Condenser. As for the HVAC Cos. that are giving you the run around keep trying as most have an Electrician that they work with and yes, you should be able to get an energy star.
