    Default how long is rain water good for?

    I have about 40 gallons of rain water, how long before it's no good for watering with?

    I've used 4 year old rainwater that had a greenish tint to it and it seemed fine. I guess if it stinks to high heaven or you stick something in it and it burns up you should dispose of it. Otherwise IMHO it's OK.

    The water is good forever. If it has some algae in it, the algae will die when exposed to sunlight and air and will provide nutrients for your plants. The only issue I see with long term storage of rain water is mosquitoes. You need to use a mosquito ring in the rain barrel or dump it periodically.
