    Default Furnace

I have a gas furnace and right now i see it is wired on the same breaker as some other outlets and lights. Should a furnace have a dedicated breaker or is it ok to have other items on the same breaker? Thanks.

If this was a new install then the new codes states there must be a seperate breaker for the furnace, as well as a disconnect at he unit itself, and most towns require co detectors, and some towns a heat sensor also. If it is and old furnace it can be wired into another circut, but I would change it to a dedicated circut anyway, this way you can be assured the power is un-interupted to the furnace if you trip the old circut. This should be an easy fix if the breaker panel is nearby. Good Luck!
