    Default Trimming a tulip tree

I have what I believe is called a tulip tree (has beautiful purple flowers) and I need to trim off a large branch that originates from the trunk. It grew such that it crosses two other branches further up the tree and has all three tangled up and all three rub against each other.

Since the tree does not seem to have a dormant period (it currently has buds on the ends of all the small branches) when is the best time to do this trimming?

And I am pretty sure I have to leave an inch or so of the branch so it will heal itself properly.

Howdy sounds like a Magnolia tree. Tulip trees grow to 100' are grand trees... I would trim early next spring.
Any an all of my comments are just my opinion and not to be confused with facts.
