Looking for Gumwood - Doors, Trim, Baseboards, Mouldings

We have a home with gumwood doors, baseboards and crown moulding, some of which have been painted over or damaged and we would like to replace.

Looking for any antique gumwood that can be repurposed. Anyone with access to these items, or tips on where to find near Toronto would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Jkirk,

I think she is referring to poplar or aspen. Poplar is often used for woodwork which is to be painted as it has a nice tight grain and it mills easily. It can be stained to leave a fairly even grain pattern. If staining, definitely use a pre-stain conditioner.

Well, live and learn! There is such an animal as gumwwod: http://www.craftsman-style.info/fini...65-gumwood.htm
It does seem to have similar qualities as does poplar.

The images on the following site show some gumwood interiors.

I can't post links, so please go to awesomewood dot ca and proceed to their gallery of sample projects and find gumwood interior.

Unfortunately no doors are shown of the type I am looking for (either to replace or restore) but the rest are of similar restoration projects/materials.

    Thanks for any help.

interesting.. regarding the "gumwood".... with no photos i still cant think of what it is exactly.. could be along the lines of mahogony

as for poplar, im well versed in it. on high end homes where mdf isnt requested and the budget is higher for paint grade trim we use poplar
