    Question textured plaster walls

I'm getting ready to paint some rooms in my house but have textured plastered walls. I've painted these before and it seems to make my updated colors look old and outdated. Is there a way to smooth out these walls? They are bumpy and have a swirl embedded in them.

Skim coating the walls smooth with drywall topping compound will do the trick. Once floated out you can decide if you want to leave them smooth or retexture with a more modern texture such as knock-down, orange peel, or skip troweling.

Thank you A. Spruce. That sounds easy enough for me. I was thinking I would have to sand them down or put drywall over them. Thanks again!

You can look on YouTube for instructional videos on the subject to get an idea of what is involved.
