I've got a 1.5 story house. Two flights of stairs, positioned at a right angle to one another with a tiny landing in between, provide access to the upper floor. The stairs, low ceilings, and fixed banister railings make it very difficult to move furniture (e.g. a queen-sized mattress) up & down. Recognizing that railings are required by building codes, is it possible to find (or construct) railings that can be temporarily removed in order to allow furniture movement? I suspect other homeowners have faced this problem and would appreciate any insights or possible solutions.
