    Default Kitchen Lighting

I am installing recessed lighting in my kitchen and want to know how far apart to space them. It is 18' x 8'. I measured from the face of the cabinet on one side to the face on the other side because the drywall goes straight up to the ceiling from the top of the cabinets flush with the face. Whatever the standard is just fine.

Howdy, any where you want the lights to shine is fine... The need of wattage is more important for a kitchen 3 watts per sqft of floor space will help you decide how many fixtures.
Work space areas also help one decide where to place the fixtures- over the sink and counters / islands. An in the eating nook...
