    Cool Generator cord size

I have a 10,000 watt and 12,500 start up portable generator. I want to keep this in my detached garage which is about 70 ft away from the inlet box on the house. What size cord am I going to use? My electrician said a 8/4 sj cord is this correct? I don't want to buy this and it be wrong. Thanks for any help.

the largest chord possible so there isnt a voltage drop from the generator to the house. what does you owners manuel say

i use generators at work quite a bit but i run individual chords to each tool... these are 12 gauge chords which are for 15 amp gear

8/4 will work with less than a 2% voltage drop at full load, however I would recommend SO cable rather than SJ. SJ is not a good choice if it may subject to oil, acid, or chemicals. I believe you are more likely to find SO more readily available..
