Plaster interior walls using metal lathe in good shape throughout the house except the portions applied directly to brick chimney (1st and 2nd floor). Problem started several years ago and have been doing everything to eliminate exterior moisture (can see brick in attic and no obvious moisture) and most recently installed a SS flue liner to eliminate potential moisture from gas furnace. Moisture is SLOWLY dropping (using moisture meter), but wondering 1) if I've solved the problem and can simply patch or 2) if I should bite the bullet, strip the wall, install a moisture barrier and replaster. House is about 80 years old.
Re: Plaster blowout
If the moisture level is under control, try the less expensive option 1.
