Default Home Generator Installation 100 AMP

    Hello,

Just curios. I am installing a 10KW-Home LP-Power Generator- with a 100 AMP Transfer Switch. Can this be installed on a 200 AMP service panel?

    Thanks, Jim

Yes, however if you haven't purchased one yet consider this. I have a neighbor that has one, during a recent power outage it worked fine however it used nearly 4 gals and hour. @ a contract price of $2.19 for propane that is $8.76/hr. If the power is off 24 hours that's over $210 a day. Using a smaller generator to run essentials for short periods as need may be a better option.

Yes, the cost and availability of gas, storage and maintenance may be too much, as Jack suggests.

In the recent natural calamities in the east, my friend who lives in NY state used his little Honda (cost $999) to power his fridge and a few lights. At night he used it for running the heater. His operating costs were a lot less than a large unit like you were looking at.
